Community Consultation re new Coastal Trail

The Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning has received funding to construct a 95+km walking trail that will link the Great Ocean Walk (which runs from 12 Apostles to Apollo Bay) and the Surf Coast Walk (which runs from Torquay to Fairhaven).

In 2021-2022 Kismet Forward, in collaboration with Intrinsic Scope and Sally Chandler-Ford, was contracted to plan, implement and report on an extensive and iterative community engagement program regarding the trail’s alignment and associated infrastructure. Four stages of community engagement were held over a 12-month period, including online and face-to-face drop-in sessions, pop-ups, intensive workshops, surveys, and the development and maintenance of an Engage Victoria webpage.

An important part of the project was the production of fact sheets and other collateral to support each engagement stage and keep community members abreast of the evolving trail design.
